“My first kiss will be at the altar at the age of 33”
Updated | By Sarah Careins
In this day and age where being a virgin seems old fashioned, Sarah Careins chose to resist all temptation and save herself for marriage.
Sarah, who has been all over South Africa teaching the youth about saving yourself for marriage, says she is a strong believer in “waiting to have sex until your wedding night”.
“The perception in today’s culture is that everyone has been kissed; so if you have not then something is wrong with you. Hollywood portrays sex as something that everyone does before marriage. Though culture may accept this, I still believe in waiting to have sex until your wedding night.”
And her virginity is not the only thing Sarah has kept for her future husband. She will be sharing her first kiss at the altar in a few months time when she says “I do” to her first ever boyfriend.
“Dreams do come true. Sometimes they just take time. We don’t have to lower our standards or compromise our beliefs. Since I was a child, I dreamed of getting married. However, the right man never came along. Instead of trying to make it happen, I simply trusted in God’s plan and served Him while I waited. Throughout my life there were a few boys that I was interested in, but they didn’t seem to be interested in me. Those that were interested in me didn’t meet my criteria. Now I realize that God was guarding my heart. In the midst of this, I did battle with feelings of loneliness and would find myself comparing my story to others. “God, when will it be my turn?”
“At the age of 33, I had almost given up hope. Then all of a sudden the right guy came along that met all my criteria. No one is “perfect” but he met every request that I had asked God for. This man pursued me. He even flew to South Africa from Texas to propose me in front of the South African church. He truly is God’s gift to me."

Sarah says she managed to resist temptation and survive 33 years of being single because of her relationship with God.
“Psalm 37:4 says, 'Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.' I’ve survived to the age of 33 by 'delighting in the Lord'. My joy was and is in God. 5 August 2017 will be my wedding day. I look forward to giving my husband a precious gift—my heart and my purity. He will be the only man I have ever kissed.”
