Here's why teaching your kids about making wishes is important
Updated | By Justin Paul James
We're all taught to 'wish upon a star' when we're younger, and it's these types of wishes that give us hope to inspire change and make a difference.
When it's just before blowing out a candle on your birthday, waiting for Santa at Christmas, or just wanting to get a new toy, our parents have told us since the beginning of time about making wishes.
East Coast Breakfast's Keri Miller is a firm believer that it is considered lucky to make a wish at 11:11.

We were told to do it, but why exactly are wishes important? If you're a parent and you're keen to understand the reasoning behind making wishes so you can educate yourself, then read on.
Here are a few reasons why you should teach your kids about making a wish:
It gets them thinking
Wishing opens their minds and gets them thinking about what they want to achieve, and what their future looks like. Every now and then, ask them to write down what they wish for, and get them to really think and contemplate. Ask them to use all colours and pictures to express themselves if needs be. Get creative.
It creates hope
In the sometimes complicated and difficult world we live in, it is easy to lose hope and want to throw in the towel. Teaching your child about wishing fosters a mindset of that there will be a light at the end of the tunnel - even if it doesn't always seem like there is going to be one. It only takes one wish and burst of positivity to achieve anything.
It shows them that anything is possible
If you dream it and believe it, anything is possible, right? In the words of Walt Disney, "When you wish upon a star Makes no difference who you are Anything your heart desires will come to you." Wishing will teach kids that no matter how much it seems impossible, if they put their mind to something, anything is possible. One wish is all it takes
You can make a child's wish come true this year - here's how
East Coast Radio’s Toy Story Campaign with Toys R Us & Babies R Us aims to make wishes come true for little people across KZN one toy at a time. Grant a wish for a child simply by donating a new toy at any Toys R Us and Babies R Us store or at the ECR house in Umhlanga between 22 October and 06 December 2019. All the toys collected will be donated to underprivileged children in government hospitals, orphanages, and children’s homes in KZN.
