Vic Naidoo entertains Durbanites every weekday from 13h00 until 16h00.

He is loved for his excellent presenting skills, bubbly personality, and sense of humour.

But, who is Vic outside of work?

We had a chat with the new ECR presenter to get to know a bit more about him.

What birthed your love for radio?

I have always loved using my voice to entertain and inform people and what better way than radio to build connections with people? My best memories growing up were the way radio made me feel when I listened to it and the presenters who took me into a new world every time.

You are quite funny. Are you intentional about it, or does it just come naturally?

I think I just try to be as honest and authentic as possible - and it’s how I react to situations. I don’t think anyone should try to be funny. You should just be true to yourself and own that.

Lockdown has all of us locked up in our houses. How do you keep yourself entertained?

I have been using the time to catch up on all the TV shows I am behind on.

Still on the issue of lockdown, how would you say it has changed your life?

My cuticles and hair are growing out of control. I need grooming asap! But on a serious note, it’s provided me with a lot of time to reflect on what I am most grateful for. I am happy to have a home and a job during these times and a family I care about. But, yes, I miss the salons and the other little things I took for granted pre-lockdown.

Are you a great cook?

I am learning to cook now because of lockdown and I think I am ready to win 'Come Dine With Me'. Not yet ready for 'Masterchef', though.

What is your favourite dish?

I love Indian cuisine and I am always down for a curry. I have been learning to cook it and experiment with different flavours. I also make a mean spaghetti bolognaise.

Let's talk about music. What are you listening to at the moment?

I have a very broad music taste, so I could have anything on shuffle from the 80s/90s/to current TOP 40 hits mixed in with a bit of alternative folk and country! I am currently listening to Luke Combs, who is an American country singer and I am also loving Christine and the Queens right now.

What is your fondest childhood memory?

Christmas with all my cousins in Port Elizabeth. The amazing lunch we had on Christmas day and walking the streets with my favourite cousins to visit all our aunts and uncles who lived in the same neighbourhood.

What is the best advice you have ever received?

Your next adventure awaits you on the other side of comfort. I have always been a creature of comfort but I’ve learnt my best moments are the ones where I push myself into the unknown and take a few risks. Better to try and fail, than fail to try.

Lastly, what advice can you give to someone who aspires to be like you?

Be honest, true, and caring. Always speak your truth and never be ashamed to share your story. Believe in the impossible and work very hard. Don’t wait for life to happen and the right time. The right time is always now. At least try. And slow and steady wins the race. Don’t compare yourself to other people and always be kind to yourself.

You can catch Vic Naidoo on East Coast Radio, weekdays from 13h00 to 16h00.
