Are
you trying for a baby but are not winning? Eating the right kinds of foods
might just be what you need in order to have that baby you have always wanted.
According to the Infertility Awareness Association of South Africa (IFAASA), one in six couples are diagnosed with infertility.
This can be devastating for couples, especially if they have been trying for a long time. However, there are many treatments for infertility such as medication, surgery, intrauterine insemination/artificial insemination, and assisted reproductive technology (ART).
But did you know that food can also help boost your chances of conceiving?
Research has found that there are certain types of foods that couples can eat to boost their chances of conceiving. Fertility.com reports that the foods couples eat today impact the health of their eggs and sperm 90 days from now, and that the cause of infertility is anovulation, which can often be remedied by changes in diet.
This shows that diet is very important. So below are some of the fertility foods you can eat to help you conceive.
Food rich in iron and protein
Elizabeth Ward, author of 'Expect the Best: Your Guide to Healthy Eating Before, During, and After Pregnancy', advises women trying to conceive to eat meat, beans, fish, leafy green vegetables, and seeds. She says these foods are rich in iron and protein which are necessary to aid conception.
Folic Acid
Research has proven that folic acid helps fertility in women and it even helps prevent birth defects in babies. So try food rich in folic acid such as dark green vegetables; broccoli, spinach, citrus, and avocado.
Also remember to exercise and not to stress, as stress has been proven to delay fertility.
