Five tips to help you look younger
Updated | By Lifestyle Reporter
These tips offer simple and effective ways to help you maintain your youthful appearance.
Forget expensive face creams and plastic surgery, we have a few simple practices that can help you keep your youthful looks. Putting these six tips into action on a regular basis can help you trim the years off.
Have your beauty sleep
Sleep is your best friend when it comes to slowing down time.
The best time for your cells to regenerate and repair effectively is at night while you sleep. Sleeping encourages the body to produce human growth hormones which help prevent wrinkles from forming.
A study done by University Hospitals Case Medical Centre found that " inadequate sleep is correlated with reduced skin health and accelerates skin ageing. Sleep deprived women show signs of premature skin ageing and a decrease in their skin's ability to recover after sun exposure." So, make sure you get the recommended eight hours of sleep every day, and thank us later.
Pick the right hairstyle
Celebrity hairstylist Chris Appleton once said, "a new haircut can literally cut away the years."
Your hairstyle plays a huge role when it comes to your looks. The wrong hairstyle can make you look older than you are, but a right hairstyle is an instant facelift. Styles which can help you look younger include the wavy bob, braids, face-framing highlights and a funky short cut.
Appleton says "dry, frizzy texture can easily make otherwise beautiful hair look drastically older," so best to avoid it.
Apply the right makeup
"Nothing, nothing, nothing makes you look older than heavy powder formulas," makeup artist Chrisanne Davis told allure.com.
As you age you might want to hide all the wrinkles and blemishes on your face by applying a lot of make-up, but this will just the have opposite effect. Avoid using too much powder and foundation and pick the right blush shade. Blush is amazing for adding youthful colour.
Also play around with your brows, thick, full, brows can take years off your face. And don’t forget your eyes, conceal the darkness at the inner corners of your eyes for youthful bright eyes.
Exercise
Researchers at McMaster University in Ontario found that people over 40 who exercised frequently, had more supple and elastic skin of younger people.
Exercise also leaves you feeling refreshed, energised and stronger, which makes your body feel and look younger.
Clearly the anti-ageing benefits of exercise are too great to ignore.
Dress your age
The type of clothes you wear can make you look older than you really are.
We’re not suggesting you buy what all the kids are wearing, but wearing clothes that are too big, shapeless and dull can make even the youngest person look at least 10 years older than they really are.
Picking the right colours, shape and size for your body will not only help you look younger, but feel younger too.
