Beginners guide to shopping like a pro on Black Friday
Updated | By Lifestyle Reporter
These six tips will make shopping during Black Friday madness a lot easier!
#BlackFriday does not have to be a fight to the death.
We can avoid injury by following this awesome guide for beginners.
1. Make a list
Know exactly what it is that you want to buy. List the normal selling price next to the item to make sure that you are getting a good discount. Put the list on your phone so you can tick items off once you have bought them. Also, consider the environment – notepads (read trees) and pens get lost very easily and are extremely bulky to carry while trying to fight someone for the last pair of Manolo’s.

2. Pay with a credit card
Most credit cards have a 55 day no interest policy, which is great because this gives you almost two months to pay off the stuff you just bought at no additional cost. It is much cheaper than using cash or your debit card and you can set a daily spend limit on your credit card – speak to your bank about this. It is also much safer and quicker than paying in cash. Your credit card will slip tightly into your pocket, sock or bra so you don’t have to worry about a purse or wallet getting lost.
3. Know the store and area you are shopping in.
Familiarise yourself with the parking so you can get a spot closest to the exit. This allows for quicker trolley offload time so you can head out to the next shop and avoid parking bay traffic.
4. Be strategic. Be quick. Be alert.
Start by buying the big box items so you can pack your trolley deeper – like Tetris. If you don’t know this game, this is your chance to practice. Once you see an item – take it, even if the box is open – remember you can return the item to the store for them to swap it for whatever reason within the stipulated days from date of purchase.
5. Team up and delegate
Ideally, the marathon that is #BlackFriday should be like an F1 race. Pit stops and check-ins along the way to offload trolley, tag out trolley pusher or loader, refuel and remember to stay hydrated. You do not want to pass out in the sweaty arms of a stranger – unless the stranger is Morris Chestnut or Wentworth Miller or both, because that would be a bargain!
6. Have fun!
Shopping should always be fun. Especially if you are buying shoes or chocolate or clothes or really, just spending money.
