5 celebrity weight loss transformations
Updated | By ThriveIn
These celebrities are great motivation for anyone looking to lose weight.
Obesity is a global problem, and even though losing weight is never easy, it comes with a lot of health benefits.
According to a study published in the New England Journal of Medicine, excess body weight was directly associated with around four million deaths globally in 2015.
In South Africa, almost 70% of women are either overweight or obese and the country has the highest rates of overweight women in Africa, reports Health24.
Let’s look at five celebrities who shed the kilos and proved that hard work, discipline and determination pays off.
Sophie Lichaba
Sophie Lichaba started her weight-loss journey after being diagnosed with Diabetes.
“Living with Diabetes doesn't mean my life must stop. It means I will fight to live and encourage those who already are suffering from this deadly disease. Help others prevent it,” she wrote on Instagram.
“I started my weight loss journey because I was obese, and it affected my health. I made a confident choice to start eating well and lose weight. Yes, it's been a year of healthy eating and I'm proud of where I am. I want to encourage those who are struggling with obesity and say don't worry what people think even if they will think you're dying. Being overweight landed me in hospital. I made my weight loss choice. I'm proud of it!"

Ntokozo Mbambo
For Ntokozo Mbambo, losing weight meant much more than just looking good, but she also wanted to serve as an example to her children about having a good body image.
"I am wonderfully and fearfully made by God but that doesn’t mean I can do as I please. I’ve just started learning to eat healthier so that I can live longer and be healthy. This isn’t because of the pressure from people or anything like that, no I’m doing this for myself and I also need to be a good example for my daughter as well," Ntokozo Mbambo told informationcradle.com.

Unathi
Unathi is a fitness fanatic. She has been very vocal about the importance of having a good body weight and maintaining it.
"I was publicly shamed for years and suffered that public beating and humiliation. Today I host seminars called A Better You, where I invite specialists to help women who want to transform their bodies. I do it for women so they know that they are not alone and that they deserve the bodies they desire. We just have to commit to ourselves because our bodies are the only bodies we’ll ever know” she told Women's Health.
