Inaccessible roads making it difficult for water tankers to reach communities - Kaunda
Updated | By Xolani Khumalo
eThekwini mayor Mxolisi Kaunda has called for calm and patience amid the water outage in many parts of Durban.
Two aqueducts from Nagle Dam that carry raw water to the Durban Heights Water Treatment Plant burst on Tuesday following a mudslide.
Umgeni Water says as a result, not enough water is getting to the plant.
The utility says its teams have been unable to reach the infrastructure to assess the damage and do repairs because of damaged roads.
In a few areas, desperate residents have been queuing to fetch water gushing from exposed and broken pipes in places where the ground gave in.

Kaunda says water tankers have not been able to reach some communities because of inaccessible roads.
He says they are doing everything in their power to help in this situation.
"We want the people to understand that as a municipality, we are also affected by the unexpected, devastating floods, which are a disaster.
"Therefore, people who are marching, blocking roads and pelting passing cars with stones and making it difficult for electricity and water technicians to go through and help will not solve this problem.
"We are appealing calm. We understand we have not reached out to some places to help, but in order for that to happen, we need protests to stop."
