Feel on top of the world when you visit Giant's Castle mountain in Drakensberg.
It gets its name from the shape of the peaks and escarpment that are thought to resemble a sleeping giant‘s profile.
The mountain provides magnificent views for walkers, ramblers, hikers, and enthusiastic mountain climbers.
It is often called “the Flower of the Drakensberg” because of its amazing rich floral diversity. So, if the site of rolling grasslands, crags, and cliffs tickle your fancy, then Giant's Castle is definitely the place to be.
Another amazing view you will get is the resort overlooking the Bushman’s River.
There are several activities that make Giant's Castle worth visiting.
- Giant's Castle’s Main Caves Museum is the perfect place to visit to learn about the San people. They lived in the caves and left such a priceless legacy of rich rock art. So, you will get to visit the bushman rock site and be captivated by all their beautiful art.
- Nature and Game reserves found at Giant's Castle are a must-visit for all the nature lovers. The Game reserve has in excess of 25 walks. Visitors can enjoy a 285-kilometre network of trails which includes three-kilometres to 30-kilometre hikes, spanning from 1 hour to overnight.
- Vulture Hide is where you can view the various raptors and vultures. These include the endangered bearded vulture, the Cape vulture, and Verreaux’s eagle.
- Every April, there is a Giant’s Challenge marathon that can be enjoyed by the entire family.
If you want to spend the night on the beautiful mountain, you can book into the Giant’s Castle Hotel and enjoy food at the Izimbali Restaurant, which has a full bar and a buffet menu.
