Keri's Wellness Wednesday: Breathe yourself awake!
Updated | By Keri Miller
This breathing exercise is known as YOGI COFFEE and you will be amazed at the results after just 30 seconds!
After spending just over a week as a pretend mom to a ‘newborn’ baby, I have spent almost all the time TIRED!
Most of us dive straight for a cup of coffee or energy drink when we are exhausted, but what if you can’t have caffeine or don’t want to? Well, I have the perfect solution for you!
Also just a note: Try and avoid practicing this on a full stomach; wait at least two hours after eating.
- Stand with your feet hip-width distance
apart (if you aren’t sure what hip width is, you should be able to fit
both fists between your feet).
- Place equal weight on both your feet.
- Legs are straight with a very slight bend at the knees (to stop overextending the knees).
- Relax the chest.
- Relax the shoulders.
- Relax your jaw.
- Take a deep inhale through the nose, allow your belly to rise.
- And then a nice long deep exhale, also through the nose (or mouth if you’re feeling like that’s what you need).
Now we are ready to begin
1. Bend your elbows and bring your fists to your shoulders.
2.
As you inhale (through the nose) extend your arms up to the sky, you
can extend your fingers like jazz hands (keep your shoulders relaxed).
3. Then exhale forcefully (through the nose) and bring your fists back to your shoulders.
Find
a nice quiet spot where you won’t be interrupted and if you can, even
try and close your eyes. Repeat for at least 30 seconds.
Do this as you wake up or even later in the day when you reach that afternoon slump.
