Kagiso Media Hunger Relief Fund: A recap of week one
Updated | By East Coast Radio
Kagiso Media has pledged to assist NGO's with feeding those in their communities. Here are this week's recipients on Thandolwethu's show.
On Thursday, Food For Life South Africa was one of those lucky recipients.
This NGO/NPO has gone beyond the call of duty delivering in excess of 500 000 freshly cooked vegetarian meals Nationally during Covid-19 lockdown. This was surpassed this weekend with their National Food A Thon.
Their Merebank branch alone has served over 200 000 meals covering areas in the entire Durban South Basin, including areas of Shallcross, Welbedacht East, West and Village.
They do this
selflessly and start cooking around 4 am every morning so that breakfast could
be a hot prepared meal for this less fortunate than themselves. This is a
remarkable effort by this organization whose mission is to eradicate hunger and
malnutrition. We implore you to assist them.
Kagiso Media Hunger Relief Fund is proud to award Food For Life South Africa R12,500.

On Wednesday, the Refocus And Upliftment Foundation (RAUF) was one of those lucky recepients
Ebrahim from RAUF explained:
RAUF started in 1998 to tackle the scourge of drug abuse in our country. We conduct 17 support group programmes countrywide on a weekly basis, whereby families and their loved ones are counselled and empowered to address the problem.
We established a halfway house in Clare Estate (Durban) in 2004 that can house 32 individuals at any given time. The feeding scheme was initiated in 2009 as a means of giving back by and motivation for our recoveries as many of them come off the streets.
We do skills development and various empowerment programs to help them overcome the challenges that they may experience before release. We provide 22 000 meals a month throughout Durban and surrounding areas.
However, due to the lockdown, it has resulted in many people losing their jobs and struggling to make ends meet. We, therefore, increased our feeding scheme capacity to 45 000 a month for the past 2 and a half months. Partnerships were formed between RAUF, Disaster Management, Ethekwini, other organisations and individuals to feed the hungry.
Our meals are prepared and delivered daily. We do not get government funding and rely on our generous donor namely the Gallagher Charitable Trust.
Kagiso Media Hunger Relief Fund is proud to award Refocus And Upliftment Foundation (RAUF) R12,500.
