Forget that expensive restaurant booking or
that uneventful night at home. Scrap the commercialised flowers and over-priced
choccies and give the gift of time – spent together in one of Durban’s most
beautifully romantic venues, with a loved one, or loved ones, listening to
award-winning South African music…all night long!
And that’s how Valentine’s Day should be spent…
Old Mutual Music at the Lake, together with East Coast Radio, presents a loved-up collaboration at the Durban Botanic Gardens this Valentine’s Day. It’s time for some musical spoils with a uniquely romantic night under the African skies, where you’re bound to fall in love with the sweet sounds of Louise Carver and Ard Matthews.
In a rare collaboration, these two award-winning South African favourites are pairing up to entertain you with some of the best love songs around; a partnership that will melt every heart and set the tone for a great night out.
For years, well-known singer and songwriter, Ard Matthews, has been honing his craft and moving people the world over. As the frontman of South African band Just Jinjer, his indelible lyrics, and melody arrangements led the way to the incredible success of the band; with their debut album ‘All Comes Round’ becoming one of the biggest selling rock genre albums of all time in South Africa. In 2012, Ard released his debut solo album to critical acclaim, and continues to perform as both a solo act as well as frontman for Just Jinjer, with many well-known and talented musicians joining him on stage.
One such artist is the enchanting Louise Carver - a musical megastar in her own right. Having signed her first record deal at the age of 15, released a debut single at 17 and her first full-length album at just 18 years of age, she’s wasted no time in creating award-winning, chart-topping music that Durbanites will get to witness firsthand this Valentine’s Day.
The oldest surviving botanic gardens in Africa, and Durban’s oldest public institution, the Durban Botanic Gardens will once again provide the naturally beautiful and welcoming space for loved ones, families and friends to get together for an evening under a canopy of trees and stars.
Gates will open at 17h00 and music will begin from 18h00 with two heart-warming performances from Angel Mazibuko and Lulu Lund. Tickets are available via www.webtickets.co.za and cost R130 for adults, R80 for children between 6 and 12, and R10 for children under 6. Secure parking is available on the umPhafa venue at the Durban Botanic Gardens and attendees are invited to bring their own food, drink, blankets and chairs to settle in for a night of great entertainment.
