We want to challenge you to recall some of the biggest newsworthy events you have heard or read on ECR.
What’s a big newsworthy event that stands out for you?

Sky Tshabalala recalls the day he heard the news on ECR that South Africa would be hosting the FIFA World Cup. The global showpiece took place in the country in 2010.
"I remember the announcement that we will be hosting the 2010 FIFA World Cup. However, what I remember even better is what happened when the host of the 2006 FIFA World Cup was announced in 2000," says Sky.

Darren Maule recalls the day he heard about the passing of South African cricket legend, Hansie Cronjé

, who died back in 2002.It's been years since the death of the cricket icon. There have been movies, documentaries as well as books about him.

As more and more events begin to roll through your mind, we look back when Mark Shuttleworth became the first South African to fly to space.
In 2002, at the age of 28, Mark became the first African in space and the second ever space tourist in history.

Here's the moment where the rest of KZN heard about this historical moment for Mark Shuttleworth on air.
Bringing it back to another local news event in South Africa, the Marikana Massacre is still to this day one of the most talked about incidents in history.
According to South African History Online, the South African Police Service (SAPS) opened fire on a crowd of striking mineworkers at Marikana.
This was on 16 August 2012 in the North West province.

The police killed about 34 mineworkers and left 78 others seriously injured.
About 250 of the miners were arrested during the Marikana protests.
While the incident has passed already before, here is how the rest of KZN heard about the massacre that's still being talked about today.
