eThekwini Municipality issues urgent water restrictions notice for Durban
From tonight, eThekwini Municipality will effect 7-hour water restrictions in central and southern Durban - a bid to conserve the city's water in the midst of the drought. The ongoing cuts kick in at 9pm and will last until 4am.
The Municipality's Tozi Mthethwa says water restrictors - which will reduce water flow and pressure - are also being installed in properties to stabilize the Wiggins water supply system.
Mthethwa says they hope to reach a water savings target of 5% with the move.
"We ask all residential and commercial users to take note of this schedule and amend your operations accordingly. The only way we can save ourselves from the drought situation is to make sure we use less water everyday in everything that we do."
The eThekwini Municipality has released a list of areas around Durban which will be affected by water restrictions from this evening.
The frequency of the restrictions will be dependent on the area affected.
