'Aint No Sunshine' singer Bill Withers dies at 81
'Aint No Sunshine' and 'Lean on Me' singer Bill Withers has died in Los Angeles at the age of 81.
The three-time Grammy Award winner and R&B legend died on Monday from heart complications, his family said in a statement to The Associated Press.
“We are devastated by the loss of our beloved, devoted husband and
father. A solitary man with a heart driven to connect to the world at
large, with his poetry and music, he spoke honestly to people and
connected them to each other,” the family statement read.
“As private a life as he lived close to intimate family and friends, his music forever belongs to the world. In this difficult time, we pray his music offers comfort and entertainment as fans hold tight to loved ones.”
The American former singer-songwriter and musician performed and recorded from 1970 until 1985. In 2015, he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame while in 2017 he received the prestigious International award of the Ivor Novello Awards in England.
'Lean on Me' was released by Withers in 1972.
Withers released 'Just the Two of Us' in 1980.
'Lovely Day' was released in 1977.
Withers is survived by his wife, Marcia, and children, Todd and Kori.
