Updated | By East Coast Radio
Explore lush nature reserves, walk along the beach, and enjoy breathtaking ocean views with a scenic hike from Umhlanga to Umdloti on April 12, 2025.

If you’re looking for a fun and refreshing way to spend your morning, this hike is for you.
Head out on a beautiful coastal trail from Umhlanga to Umdloti, taking in some of the most stunning natural scenery KZN has to offer.
The route winds through the Umhlanga Lagoon Nature Reserve and the Sibaya Coastal Forest Reserve, where you’ll walk among lush greenery, spot local wildlife, and enjoy the beautiful sounds of nature.
At low tide, you’ll hike along the shoreline, giving you the chance to feel the sand beneath your feet and enjoy the scenic ocean views.
There’s also a river crossing, so bring a small towel in case you need to dry off. You’ll end the adventure with a well-deserved coffee break, because what’s a good hike without a little reward?
Kids and well-behaved dogs are welcome, but keep in mind that dogs aren’t allowed in the nature reserves, so you’ll need to stick to the beach route if you bring one.
Wear comfortable walking shoes or go barefoot on the beach, and don’t forget to pack water, and snacks in a small backpack.
The hike will go ahead whether there's rain or shine – it will be cancelled, however, if extreme weather like thunderstorms or hail is predicted.
Tickets are only available on Quicket, and spaces are limited!
