KZN's best beaches that you should visit
Updated | By East Coast Radio
And now, the main event: KZN's Best Beaches in December.
After a year of hard work, there's nothing as therapeutic as a day lounging on the beach. KZN's shoreline is among the world's most beautiful, and we want to ensure you're well-prepared to experience the best our province offers during this Endless Summer.
As a starting point, Durban's central beaches are hard to beat. From the gentle swells at Point Beach to the family-friendly vibe at Addington, you're sure to feel at home with a trip to the Golden Mile. Don't forget to try a spiced pineapple while you're there!

If you're on the north coast, enjoy the famed Umdloti tidal pool. Under the right conditions, you could easily mistake it for a resort island. A visit to Thompson's Bay in Ballito is also essential. With thrilling sailing conditions and Charly's Pool available when the tide is high, you can enjoy a wonderful snorkel and venture through the "hole-in-the-wall" to discover a series of picturesque beaches. Your Instagram will thank you!

The South Coast has a textured and beloved coastline, starting at Rocky Bay. The bathing conditions are some of the best in our province, and the community is fiercely passionate about maintaining the area. Pennington is a great spot for a beach day and offers access to the breathtaking Aliwal Shoal, renowned for an intrepid diving adventure. Ramsgate will always be a great bet for a sweltering day, and you can grab a waffle from a famous nearby restaurant to refuel your energy after a long swim.
In Richard's Bay, Alkanstrand Beach is a year-round hit with the locals and a great place for a picnic in a safe, family-friendly environment. Zinkwazi Beach is a hidden gem, and if you're looking for a quiet spot to enjoy the beach surrounded by dense coastal forest, it should be on your list, along with Mtunzini.

To truly experience KZN's substantial wildlife while enjoying a beach day, plan a trip to Cape Vidal. This beach is inside the iSimangaliso Wetland Park, providing a truly wild experience and an opportunity for a snorkel tour.
If you have a few days to spare, take a drive to the farthest north beach in KZN and experience the awe and wonder of Kosi Bay. You can tour the Three Lake system, where you'll encounter translucent waters before arriving at an island-esque beach and a crystal-clear river estuary. Consult tour guides in the area because it's common for hippos to wander the beaches.
KZN has a beach for every taste, and we hope you explore more offerings than ever before this holiday season.
Stay tuned for more, we will bring you the latest things to do on the East Coast.
