If you’re someone who has to dig out their trainers and shake off the cobwebs before the Suncoast East Coast Radio Big Walk, don’t worry – we’re not judging.

We’re that friend who’s always in your corner, cheering you on no matter what.

That’s why we borrowed a few minutes from one of our fittest East Coast Radio champs, Rory Petzer

He’s a Comrades medalist and just completed the Two Oceans Ultra Marathon, so we figured – who better to share a few simple tips to help you get Suncoast East Coast Radio Big Walk ready?

Rory was more than happy to share some advice ahead of the Suncoast East Coast Radio Big Walk.

He started with this, "The Suncoast East Coast Radio Big Walk is the biggest family walking event in KZN, so my first bit of advice is to make sure you take part! The worst feeling in the world is FOMO; you’ll have that for months if you forget to enter or leave it too late. Don’t be that person. Enter and join us on the promenade!"

Then he got into the nitty-gritty stuff. "Regardless of what distance you’re doing, please make sure you stretch beforehand. Move your legs around and shake your body a little before walking. You know you want to!"

And very important: "As with any form of exercise, hydration is important, especially in Durban, which we know is the warmest place to be! Make sure you hydrate before, during and after."

Rory also shared a great reminder about the Suncoast East Coast Radio Big Walk vibe.

"It’s not a race nor a competition," he said. "So bring your biggest smile and get ready to make friends along the route. Who knows! You might even find the love of your life. What an amazing story that would be!"

As an avid runner, Rory knows all too well how important planning is. "Give yourself enough time in the morning to arrive, park, and get your bus to the start. Nothing is worse than having to rush, panic, and have your heart rate shoot up before you even begin the Suncoast East Coast Radio Big Walk."

And of course, he wrapped things up with a feel-good message: "Wait! One more piece of advice – have fun and take selfies all day!"

Because let’s be honest – life’s too short to let anyone else ruin your vibe. Put on a big smile and enjoy the day. You’ve got this.
