Reginald Kenneth Dwight was born on the 24th of March 1947 and raised in the Pinner area of London where he learned to play the piano and by 1962 had formed his first band Bluesology, an RnB band which was his musical home till 1967.
It was later that year where he met the person who he would change the musical world with.
His music career is impressive to say the least, with over fifty Top 40 hits and selling more than 300 million records He is undoubtable one of the best-selling artists of all time.
His collaboration with Bernie Taupin since 1967 is possibly one of music’s best partnerships as the two wrote and recorded more than 30 albums together and during this time he had 7 consecutive number one albums in the US which is an incredible achievement.
In 1997 he rewrote his classic single ‘Candle in the Wind’ as a tribute to Princess Diana which sold over 33 million copies worldwide and is the best selling single of all time in the UK and US singles charts.
With 5 Grammy Awards, 5 Brit Awards, 2 Golden Globes, 2 Academy Awards and a Tony Award Sir Elton John is a celebrate musical genius.
In 2005 Elton entered into a civil partnership with David Furnish and in 2014 when same sex marriage became legal the pair were married officially.
In a career spanning decades, with some of the most recognisable songs of all time, we say Happy Birthday Sir Elton and here’s to many more!!!
