Woman teaches followers how to make homemade toilet paper
Updated | By East Coast Breakfast
'Is the toilet paper in the room with us?' Social media users are not convinced, but given the cost of toilet paper these days, we might just give this woman's DIY loo roll a try.
A digital influencer from Zambia is causing a stir with her homemade toilet paper video.
No, it's not for an arts and crafts project! Nzila Miyoba is on a mission to help people find alternative methods of making essentials from scratch.
She shared a step-by-step guide on how to make toilet paper in your kitchen. The video has been watched more than five-million times on TikTok.
Many people use newspapers in a moment of desperation when they run out of toilet paper. In some disadvantaged communities, using newspapers instead of toilet paper is a common practice.
However, wiping your buttocks with dry newspaper is not a pleasant experience. It doesn't get the job done properly; it blocks your toilet and it can cause skin irritation due to the ink and other bacteria that have accumulated over time.
Nzila says she has found a way to recycle newspaper into a "softer, tissue-like material that is much gentler on the skin".

As crazy as DIY-ing your toilet paper sounds, Nzila's heart is in the right place.
"I'm sharing this video to help anyone who's looking for alternative methods to create essentials from scratch, especially if access to toilet paper is limited," she said in her video.
"It might seem like a myth or a farfetched idea, but the reality is millions of people struggle to obtain basic necessities like toilet tissue."
Despite Nzila producing what appears to be several sheets of toilet paper, many social media users are not sold on the idea.
"You are watching too much Nara Smith," one TikTok user commented. Nara Smith is a famous TikTok influencer known for making bubblegum, toothpaste, yoghurt, sunscreen, and cereal from scratch.
Another TikTok user told Nzila that her final product did not look like something they would want to use on their precious buttocks.
"The end product looks like sandpaper," the user wrote.
Social media users were also unconvinced on Instagram, where Nzila's video has been viewed over a million times.
"Sorry, I think the video isn’t complete. Where is the toilet paper?" one person asked. Another user asked: "Is the toilet paper in the room with us?"
Some noted that many disadvantaged or broke people won't be able to use her toilet paper-making method.
"Guuuuurrrrlll, if we can’t afford toilet paper, how [are] we gonna afford a blender and those racks?"
A second person commented: "All that time wasted, electricity and water just for one piece."
A third wrote: "I hate that I live in a world where I can’t tell if this is satire or not."
