WATCH: Protesters storm Sri Lankan President's residence

Sri Lankan locals have had enough and decided to do something about it...

Thousands of protesters in Sri Lanka’s stormed the president’s official residence.

.In a video that went viral, the local people of Sri Lanka stormed inside the residence of their president, Gotabaya Rajapaksa

The official residence is located in the capital of Colombo.

The storming of the residence was due to the mounting anger at the country's worst economic crisis in years.

From the video, thousands of people can be seen holding the national flag as they stormed the residence.

The security at the residence needs to be questioned, as both the police and military couldn't hold the protesters back.

There had been chants from the protesters for the president to step down.

Sri Lanka has been suffering through many months of food and fuel shortages, lengthy blackouts (loadshedding), and inflation hikes after running out of foreign currency.

The day after the locals had invaded the presidential home, the President Rajapaksa took the decision to step down

The president's camp has asked the public to remain calm, respect the law, and to maintain peace during this time.
