A UK-based relocation website, Remitly, asked people from around the world on the 'agreeableness' trait of the Big 5 Personality Test, a globally recognised and standardised personality test. How did our nation do?
South Africa clinched the top spot among the friendliest nations, boasting an impressive score of 34.63 out of 40 on the 'agreeableness' trait as assessed by the Big 5 Personality Test.
As per the survey findings, South African locals are renowned for their warmth and hospitality, creating an environment where travellers and visitors instantly feel comfortable. It's a common experience to receive friendly greetings from strangers while strolling along the streets, and South Africans are generally inclined to engage in conversations, showcasing their affable nature and sharing their jovial spirit through plenty of banter and humour.
In addition to this, the fact that we have eleven official languages spoken in South Africa means that there are tons of ways to connect with diverse people.
Speaking of friendliness, what about our friendliest city, Gqeberha? This gem of a city, formerly known as Port Elizabeth, has earned the title of South Africa's friendliest city.
But right here on the East Coast, our province is pretty darn friendly, too.
Let's keep the love going and celebrate how South Africa is the friendliest nation on the map!
