Scotland is making history by providing free feminine products
Updated | By East Coast Breakfast
Scotland approved the first stage of the bill that would make feminine products completely free - and we are loving it!
According to the online article, a study performed by Plan International UK has shown that 15% of girls have struggled to afford sanitary products in the UK, and it also revealed that nearly half of girls aged 14-21 are embarrassed by their periods.
It indicates that period poverty and stigma are major problems which need to be addressed. And that is what Scotland is doing. They are introducing a bill to make female products free countrywide!
Scotland became the first country in the world to make period products available for free in schools, colleges, and universities. The government provided £5.2-million in funding to support this.
Last year, Minister in the Presidency responsible for Women Bathabile Dlamini said there will be a programme implemented for girls to receive free sanitary pads, she said she wants to ensure that learners attend school without hindrance due to a biological phenomenon, which is a natural part of life.
