New speed traps will be used in South Africa to catch drivers
Guys, please be safe on the roads and obey the law...
There will be new technology installed to catch motorists who are moving at high speed on the roads.
According to Gauteng Traffic Police, there has been an increase in speed related arrests, so the Moving Violation Recorders (MVR) device will be used to help curb this problem from getting worse.
This new technology is being used on regional and residential roads as a way of tracking speeding drivers.

How it works is that the MVR camera records the average speed which will be measured over a minimum of 500m. The incident is recorded and then downloaded for either investigation or prosecution purposes.

South Africa also uses the Average-Speed-Over-Distance (ASOD) technology which is currently being used on Mzansi’s major national highways. These highways include the N1 and N3.

The MVR moving violation recorder in GTP HSU (High Speed Unit) vehicles provide video evidence of Reckless Driving.
A 47yr old driver has been convicted following the arrest when found travelling at an average speed of 228kmh (68,3m/s)

Gauteng Traffic Police spokesperson Sello Maremane has maintained that road users should still follow the national speed rules on the road to avoid being arrested.
"We call upon drivers to adhere to the general speed limit on Gauteng major routes in order to save lives," said Maremane.
