With the unemployment rate at an appalling level, these skillsets may change the landscape in the coming years.
We live in the digital age where most of the work we do can be done online and relies so much on technology. Most of the skills on the list shared by online course provider Coursera as the most in-demand skills, were in the fields linked closely to Digital and Tech.
The list is featured in a report based on 26 specific skills in the business, technology, and data science domains. They share that each industry saw a high need for technology skills to account for the lack of physical presence. This was obviously realised during the pandemic.

The rate of digital transformation due to pandemic lockdowns was substantial. Microsoft data shows that two years’ worth of transformation was concentrated into two months. And in the last weeks of March 2020, for example, there was as much broadband growth as some experts expected for the entire year

We would love for South Africa's employment rate to get better by 2025. And that would somehow be possible by adding workers with such skills.
Coursera shared that up to 149-million new digital jobs in the world could be created simply from employing people with these skills.
They further shared that a lot of people are starting to show an interest in learning software engineering and data analysis skills. This then requires that schools or Higher Education Facilities should aim to include these subjects if they do not have them already.
