Indonesian villages covered in ash after volcanic eruption
Incredible footage has been captured of Mount Sinabung erupting on Monday.
On Monday, 10 August, Indonesia’s Mount Sinabung emitted a large column of ash and smoke about 5,000 metres into the sky. According to reports, this is the second eruption in three days.
The volcano, located on Sumatra Island, erupted for a second time, as it had also erupted on Saturday. This eruption left some communities in complete darkness as ash and smoke debris covered the area.

“It was like magic; when the ash came it went from being very bright to dark as night. The village went dark for about 20 minutes," Rencana Sitepu, the head of Namanteran village, said.

Although there were no reports of injuries or fatalities, Armen Putera, a local official at Indonesia’s Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation Centre, warned of possible lava flows and more eruptions, therefore everyone should stay away from red-zone areas.
