If your results show a lack of antibodies post COVID-19 vaccination, they may be wrong.

It seems you may need to wait 2 weeks post vaccination to receive credible results regarding your antibodies when taking a COVID-19 test

Virologist, virus hunter and bioinformatician Prof Tulio de Oliviera from KRISP at UKZN speaks to us yet another week regarding COVID-19 related topics.

There is unrest and uninformed speculation regarding the results received after getting vaccinated.

This week, Prof Tulio De Oliveira explains the reason why some people’s results may indicate they don’t have antibodies when they take another test post COVID-19 vaccination.

He explains that the current vaccine used contains “spike protein” which is the main ingredient generated in the vaccinated person.

Unfortunately, most vaccines do not contain this protein but the “nucleocapsid protein” which is a completely different protein and part of the virus.

The reason results indicate the lack of antibodies is purely because the vaccine does not test for the correct protein.

Prof Tulio further explains that the vaccine takes 14 days to generate high levels of antibodies which will effectively attack the COVID-19 virus.
