National utility Eskom announced that stage 2 load shedding would be implemented due to severe generation capacity constraints. They said load-shedding would continue for the rest of the week and end on Monday at 5am.

The national department of health has warned of a possible measles outbreak, cautioning the risk remains high following decreased uptake of childhood vaccination during the pandemic.

Durban's famous Umgeni Steam Railway has been forced to suspend its operations after the recent floods caused extensive damage and undermined the tracks. The non-profit company, run by volunteers, has been forced to start a crowdfunding campaign to cover more than R1-million in costs.

Russian troops occupying the Ukrainian city of Melitopol stole nearly $5-million (About R80-million) of farm vehicles from a John Deere dealership and shipped some of them more than 700 miles to Chechnya, only to find they had been rendered useless by a remote-locking system that prevented the thieves from turning the equipment on.
