East Coast Radio partners with The South African National Blood Service to make a difference
Updated | By East Coast Radio
On November 6th, your favourite DJs will be embarking on a mission to increase the blood supply in KwaZulu-Natal.
The South African National Blood Service (SANBS) is experiencing a blood supply shortage and we need your help to increase the supply in our province.
At a time when people are understandably focused on staying safe and avoiding contracting COVID-19, little concern is available for much else. COVID-19 restrictions have severely limited the ability to collect adequate blood stocks, particularly because the SANBS is not able to access schools, colleges, and corporates for blood drives.
Blood stocks have dropped significantly and SANBS are appealing to all South Africans to donate a unit of blood in aid of those who need it.
On Friday, 6 November, we are on a mission to collect 400 units of blood in one day. In the following locations:
1. Durban North Donor Centre
2. Shelly Beach Donor Centre
3. Boardwalk Inkwazi Richards Bay
4. Liberty Midlands Mall
Minimum Requirements to be a Blood Donor:
- You are between the ages of 16 and 75 years old, for first time donors.
- You weigh a minimum of 50 kgs (and platelets a minimum of 55 kgs).
- You are in good health.
- You lead a low risk lifestyle.
- You consider your blood safe for transfusion.
- You have had a balanced meal within four hours of donating blood.
- You have not donated blood in the last 56 days (and platelets in the last 14 days).
- Your pulse is between 50-100 regular beats per minute.
Every unit of blood can save a minimum of three lives, so join us November 6th and let’s make a difference together.
