Durban Metro Police have made moves to become more environmentally friendly.
Durban Metro Police have recently taken a step into the future by introducing electric bikes to their crime-fighting arsenal.
These new bikes are set to revolutionise the way the police patrol the city, providing a more efficient and effective means of tackling crime in the area.

According to IOL, electric bikes are designed to be lightweight and agile, allowing officers to quickly move through traffic and pedestrian areas.
The bikes are also equipped with GPS tracking and emergency response systems, enabling officers to respond quickly to any incidents.

These machines will also provide an environmentally-friendly approach to crime fighting, with no fuel emissions and zero noise pollution.
This makes them an ideal choice for patrolling areas where noise levels can be disruptive, such as residential districts.
The Durban Metro Police Department have added five electric bikes to their vehicle fleet and will go a long way in saving fuel with petrol close to R23 per litre.

The bikes are also cost-effective, with minimal maintenance requirements and no need for fuel or oil.
This has allowed the Metro Police to quickly expand their fleet and increase the number of officers on patrol.

According to the Metro Police, the bike takes a conventional three-pin plug and charges at a normal wall socket.
Its full charge lasts almost a month, although this has not been verified yet.
Metro police spokesperson Boysie Zungu has indicated that the five new electric bikes were added in December last year.
