Darren's five natural places you have to see in KZN before you die
The beauty of mother nature never fails to amaze us. Darren Maule shared an intriguing piece that is well worth a read.
Earth Day is celebrated annually on 22 April. It signifies the importance of mother nature.
Several summits, events, and talks were held all around the world to celebrate her beauty and discuss insightful ways in which her natural beauty can be preserved.
In keeping with this theme, I encourage you all to take in the great outdoors, so I decided to share five places you have to see - free of charge, in KZN before you die.

1. Berea Bridge
Durban’s Berea Ridge climbs from its lowest point (Sandile Thusi Road) all the way up to UKZN Howard College. The students are spoiled with the most incredible views out over Durban harbour, the city centre, and the Indian Ocean.
You must have driven past it 1,000 times and the traffic during peak hours which can make you miss it, but on the corner of Innes and Rosetta Roads is a little park in which stands a huge cube. Park off and take look out at the Moses Mabhiba Stadium. I’m convinced that this is where the architect wanted you to see it from.

3. Mkhomazi
One of the most isolated parts of the Drakensberg Mountains, Mkhomazi, is a series of wetlands, deep gorges, and grasslands - all separate from the escarpment. After a short hike up to Sinclair’s Shelter and a stay at one of two overnight caves for hiking, you will be rewarded with a sight like no other. It's not an easy route, but the view over Inzinga Valley is worth it.
4. Uvongo River Waterfall
About 12 km south of Sheppies (Port Shepstone), the Uvongo River Nature Reserve’s 23-metre high waterfall is magnificent. You can even climb steps from the beach to a viewpoint that overlooks the waterfall.
5. Swallow Roost
I stumbled on this one by chance and what a treat. Schedule your next trip to Ballito in April to coincide with this awesome natural phenomenon. Thousands of swallows descend on Mount Moreland in Ballito and it is an ornithologist photographer's ultimate sunset shot.
