Parents often encourage their children to smile in pictures; "everyone say cheese!" But there's always the one child who will not budge and we shake it off, to the kid just being a kid. Joe Fredericks has given us some food for thought with his poignant statements about choosing to not force himself and fake a smile.
The father and son start chatting about smiling in pictures and Kevin wants to know what the deal is, with his son not smiling in most pictures.

I don’t like forcing myself to feel happy. If I’m happy then I’m happy- Joe
Joe goes on to state that if he is in a good mood, then he will smile, but if not, then things are just going to become awkward. In a moment of clarity, Kevin seems to understand what his son is saying, and they are both in agreement by the end of the interview.

Although, when he’s older he’ll wish he would have taken all the pictures possible.
Smile or not. It’s the people in those pics that will make him smile years later while he’s reminiscing.
What an awesome father! To even bring up the topic in the first place....and the close relationship shows through, particularly how your son felt comfortable elaborating on the topic. Awesome dad!
