Myles Buxtan and his family decided to take up the Mzansi Marathon Lockdown Challenge for the 21-day lockdown. It entails doing 2 km every day around your house or garden.

On the third day, Buxtan's wife ran 5 km, so Buxtan did 6 km. He joked that if she ran any further he would end up running a marathon in one day for charity - so the Bambalela Marathon was born.

"God dropped the thought in my heart. I messaged Dean Wight who is Mr Running for Charity in KZN and the rest is history. It is a fun run/walk event for the whole family, including the pets with distances ranging from 5 km to the ultimate marathon test," said Buxtan.

Dean Wight, who is Mr Running Charity in KZN, has raised hundreds of thousands of Rand for the incredible Hillcrest Aids Trust Centre (HACT) over many years.

"I think he answered me in one minute and said he was in if we ran for HACT and the rest is history. So together with a fantastic team of committed souls, we have launched the biggest virtual Marathon ever. We named it the Bambalela marathon. Then today we got confirmation that Futurelife has come in as a sponsor. So we are so excited to share some positive vibes with a downcast nation and help them to stay strong," concluded Buxtan.
