Are the hair policies of schools outdated?

A Durban high school sent a group of matric pupils home for their hair allegedly being against the code of conduct. According to a source who spoke to IOL, the boys had their hair done for their matric farewell that took place a week before they were sent home from school.

Last year, a school in Gauteng was in hot water after it was accused of policing hair and penalising pupils for their hairstyles. 

Remember the #StopRacismAtPretoriaGirlsHigh in 2016, where young girls attending the school were instructed to straighten their hair and not wear dreadlocks or face being barred from writing their exams? This broke out into a huge protest action.
