Search continues for Durban toddler swept by flood
Updated | By Lethiwe Mdluli
Efforts to find a toddler who was swept away by raging floods in Umlazi, south of Durban, are continuing today.
The little girl went missing after her creche became flooded during yesterday's storm in Durban.
IPSS Medical Rescue's Paul Herbst explains what happened yesterday.
"There's a nearby creche and the teacher had four toddlers and she was trying to get them across the road. Out of nowhere - there was a flash flood of water that came down the hill. She managed to keep three of them safe. Unfortunately, the fourth one went down with the water into the river," he says.
Herbst says teams are also working on other reported drownings in the city.
"There's five drownings outstanding - the search will continue today," he says.
