The Durban Chamber of Commerce and Industry says its main priority following Tuesday's severe storms is getting the region's economy up and running again.
The Chamber says an estimated R400 million to R500 million will be needed to repair damaged infrastructure.
CEO Dumile Cele says many businesses have still not resumed operations, placing the livelihood of many families at risk.
"The community of Durban have experienced absolute devastation with the storm we've experienced on Tuesday. The business community has reported to the Durban Chamber of Commerce that they have experienced much devastation.
"There has been a lot of damage to property. There has been an absolute stoppage of operations. As the business community in Durban, we are concerned about ensuring that we get our economy back to work," she says.
