Everything you need to know ahead of the Big Walk
Updated | By East Coast Radio
As excitement builds for this year’s Discovery East Coast Radio Big Walk on Sunday 20 May, the team is hard at work ironing out the last minute logistics for KwaZulu-Natal’s biggest outdoor participative event.
All participants are reminded to collect their t-shirt, race number and other goodies at race pack collection at Moses Mabhida Stadium between Thursday 17 and Saturday 19 May.
Remember to bring your race reference number and proof of payment to help make for a smooth collection process.
Race Pack Collection times are as follows:
On event day, designated parking areas will be available at both the start (uShaka Marine World) and finish (Moses Mabhida People’s Park). Buses will offer a free shuttle service to participants between the start and finish from 06h00 until 13h00. You can catch a bus from the finish area to the start area before or after your walk. Tickets for the designated parking at both the start and finish will cost R20, so remember to have exact cash on hand on the day.
East Coast Radio Events Manager Zama Khawula says, “We will endeavour to get all walkers to the start with the least amount of delay. However please arrive with enough time ahead of your race to avoid delay and disappointment. Please be mindful of the starting times for your event and allow enough time to park and ride before your race starts.”
On Sunday 20 May, several roads will be closed by Durban Metro Police. Make sure you plan your commute to avoid these roads. Masabalala Yengwa (previously NMR) Avenue southbound will be closed from Smiso Nkwanyana (previously Goble) Road to Sandile Thusi (previously Argyle) Road, while Masabalala Yengwa Avenue northbound from Sandile Thusi Road to Isaiah Ntshangase (Walter Gilbert) Road will be closed from 5:00am until after the event.
