Union calls for private schools to halt classroom teaching

Educators Union of South Africa (EUSA) is calling for all private schools to stop learning and teaching in classrooms, for now.
EUSA's plea comes days after President Cyril Ramaphosa announced that public schools would close for four weeks to curb the spread of COVID-19.

KwaZulu-Natal EUSA members picketed outside three private schools in Durban on Monday.
Spokesperson, Nathi Mbambo says the virus knows no bounds.

"Those teachers who work in private schools don't leave there permanently - they come back home every evening, so chances of infecting their families are very high.

"The same thing applies to pupils who attend private schools - they go home every afternoon and come back every morning, so chances of infecting their families are also high.
"We call upon all private schools to close down because coronavirus knows no difference between public school and a private schools. It kills everyone," says Mbambo.
