Transport industry permitted to carry full capacity for local trips
Busses, metered taxis, e-hailing services and scholar transport will now be able to carry full loads, along with taxis, Transport Minister Fikile Mbalula announced.
Mbalula gave details of the amended regulations at a press briefing in Pretoria on Thursday.
He says these vehicles, including shuttle and chauffeur services, are permitted to transport 100% of their licensed carrier capacity for any trip not regarded as long distance.
"Long-distance travel refers to any trip that is 200 km or longer.

"Not that is in terms of our law in the country. The National Land Transport Act what is long distance and it says it is 200 km or longer, and so in this instance, we will refer to that in terms of our regulations."
The minister says commuter rail is limited to 70 percent of its capacity.
