Ramaphosa: R20bn injected into SA's COVID-19 health care response, municipalities
President Cyril Ramaphosa says government's R500 billion social and economic support package will assist various sectors - negatively affected by the coronavirus lockdown.
Ramaphosa unveiled government's plan in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, during Tuesday night's address to the nation.
R20 billion will be injected into South Africa's health care response to COVID-19.
"If we are to successfully manage the anticipated surge in cases and ensure that everyone who needs treatment receives it, we must provide for additional expenditure on personal protective equipment for health workers, community screening, an increase in testing capacity, additional beds in field hospitals, ventilators, medicine and staffing."

Another R20 billion will be made available to municipalities.
"For the provision of emergency water supply, increased sanitisation of public transport and facilities, and providing food and shelter for the homeless."
"The nation-wide lockdown has had a negative impact on the revenue of municipalities at a time when the demands on them are increasing."
He says Finance Minister, Tito Mboweni will outline the details regarding the country's budget adjustments.
