"COVID-19 is real" says KZN family after father of three dies

A Durban family says they are in disbelief after COVID-19 claimed the life of their loved one.
Keith Smale, 51 passed away in Wentworth Hospital over a week ago.
His sister, Lavona Niekerk says when he fell ill, they thought it was the flu, "The doctor treated him for the flu and later that week when I eventually was cleared from my quarantine."
She said she visited him and saw that was very weak, that is when she insisted he needed a COVID-19 test.
"Which we later did that day and on Saturday, I visited him again, he had deteriorated drastically overnight. That's when I insisted we take him to hospital."

Niekerk who's described the coronavirus as a faceless enemy - says she didn't know that they were saying goodbye to the father of three girls.
"The hospital staff were excellent at Wentworth Hospital. I'm sure they did their best that they could at the time.

"It's really, hard but as a family, we have rallied together and I know that we going to make it through this," she added.
She urged people to take the virus more seriously as it is real and deadly.
