Coronavirus: Safety measures tightened at KZN businesses, malls

With businesses being encouraged to adopt bolder measures against the coronavirus pandemic, Galleria Mall in Amanzimtoti says it's bringing staff on board who'll focus on boosting sanitisation.


With businesses being encouraged to adopt bolder measures against the coronavirus pandemic, Galleria Mall in Amanzimtoti says it's bringing staff on board who'll focus on boosting sanitisation.

 This morning the number of cases in the country has jumped to 85. 16 of those infections are in KZN. 


The country has been in a state of national disaster since Sunday night and the public has been asked to intensify hygiene practices and keep up social distancing, as a way to stop the spread of the virus. 


Galleria Mall's Kurt Hoggan says, as one of the busiest shopping centres in the province, safety precautions are a must. "There is nothing more important than maintaining a safe environment. So we will be closing our free play area, increasing our staff structure compliments where we will have additional staff in all the services to  sanitise  high traffic areas," said Hoggan.

Despite warnings against panic-buying, some consumers are still flocking to malls to stockpile essential supplies. 


Hoggan says it's up to the public to play their part in protecting communities, " we need to trust our greater communities will ban together and during this time of uncertainty adopt a culture of social responsibility." 


Clicks are limiting customers to six of each product. This would apply to hand sanitiser, toilet paper, vitamins and medication for children and pain relief. 


Pick n Pay says customers who're 65-years and older - will be able to shop between 7 and 8 in the morning on Wednesdays, starting today.
