Coronavirus: Early SASSA pay for elderly, disabled
Updated | By Lauren Beukes
The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) says it will be paying out old age and disability grants earlier.
There's been uncertainty around the April payments due to the coronavirus outbreak.
SASSA says it's prioritising grants for the elderly and those with disabilities to ease congestion at retailers.
These will be paid out at the end of this month.
Other grants, such as child support, should be collected on the 1st of April.

SASSA says it has also put measures in place to make sure there aren't large crowds at pay points.
Many of the recipients are pensioners who are at high risk.
"Additional measures will be put in place to manage the numbers at cash pay points to ensure that hygiene protocols for everyone are followed, and social distancing is maintained."
"SASSA will ensure that the number of clients being serviced at any one time does not exceed the national set number of 100 people," says spokesperson Paseka Letsatsi.
"Social grant beneficiaries are encouraged to avoid areas where large numbers of people are gathered for their personal safety."
