Calls for Chatsworth schools to shut over COVID-19 fears
Updated | By Nomfundo Ngcobo
School Governing Bodies within the Bayhaven area in Chatsworth, south of Durban are calling on the Department of Education to close all schools in the region with immediate effect.

On Thursday, Oceanview Primary, which falls within the area became the fifth school in the province to close its doors after a teacher tested positive.
Schools reopened for grade 7 and 12 learners on Monday.
Speaking on behalf of all SGB Chairpersons, Brandon Pillay says the unanimous decision among the parent component is for schools to remain closed until the virus has reached its peak and the number of new infections in the country decreases.

"Two schools already are affected, one a Secondary and a Primary.
"The SGB chairpersons of all these schools have come together, and they have taken a unanimous decision that we should encourage all our schools within the zone to close in the interim because we don't want any more cases to be found or to be established before closing.
"We are saying that we should close now, we should go through the peak and when the numbers have decreased, or there is a decline, thereafter schools can reopen."
