MTV has announced that Jennifer Lope will receive the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award at its 2018 Video Music Awards.

The 'On the Floor' hitmaker will also perform at the awards, which will take place in New York City later this month.

It will be the singer's first time performing live at the awards since 2001.

The award has been given to musicians and bands such as Madonna, Janet Jackson, Justin Timberlake, Guns N' Roses, Rihanna, Kanye West, Britney Spear, and David Bowie in the past.

Jennifer could not contain her excitement after the announcement.

While many see Jennifer, whose career began over 20 years ago, as a worthy recipient, some have questioned MTV's decision to give her the prestigious award.

Many came to the 49-year-old's defence, saying her work - which includes selling over 80-million records and 40-million albums - speaks for itself.
