Day 7: The Big Favour in Partnership with LottoStar
Day 7 of The Big Favour in partnership with LottoStar brought smiles to many recipients faces.
Five families all have been given a chance of hope and happiness during this time, thanks to The Big Favour in Partnership with LottoStar.
Recipient 1:

Nominee Name: Ayande and Sma
This is a small family-owned coffee shop that is the perfect example of the Rainbow Nation at work! Ayinde and Sma worked for a well-known restaurant in the Midlands and decided to start their own business in hospitality. They took over a struggling coffee shop in a conservative suburb in Pietermaritzburg, and against all odds have become an integral part of our community. They are loved by everyone, and they know all their customers by name. However, they are struggling to make ends meet. They are unable to afford a stand-by for load shedding, and the water is always going off in the area so they are often unable to fill their coffee machine to make coffee. As a side-line Ayande has a group of barmen that he contracts out for functions, making his hours very long and driving late at night. They are a wonderful family, with two gorgeous children, but during Lockdown they are totally without an income. They are the most delightful couple, struggling against the odds, and so deserving of a helping hand. Clarendon loves them, and we want them to continue with their small business and know that we love and support them. Please give them a chance with a Big Favour! You won't be disappointed with your choice. I entered them on Day One, but am trying again because they really NEED you!.

Nominator Name: Geraldine King
Nominee Name: Angela Arries
The family I
nominate is the Arries Family, headed and supported by single mother Angela
Arries, who suffers from cellulitis in her legs and chronic pressure, but
despite her medical condition which some might view as a setback, she still
goes out of her way to find employment to support her family which
includes part-time work in her community. This equates to the only source of income in their household which consists of
her two children, a 15-year-old girl and a 2-year-old boy and her two nieces
and one nephew.
She also relies on donations from her church and local NPO’s. Please assist her as this
would help her in covering her monthly expenses through
this difficult time of uncertainty.

Nominator Name: Robyn Bahlmann
Nominee Name: Gert Van Der Linden
Gert is a self-employed hairstylist living in Shelly Beach, he cannot work and earn a living to support himself and his family. He is a single parent and father of two son's, one who is overseas at the moment locked down in Turkey so only requires a bit of money from his Dad, but his younger son lives with him full time and he gets no financial assistance. Gert is always willing to help everyone and has a real heart of gold and even in this time is still keeping positive, staying busy and trying to help where he can. He will not ask for help very easily and stays humble. If anyone deserves some help at this time it would really be Gert as he really needs it.

Nominator Name: Ayanda Biyela
Nominee Name: Sphephelo Luthuli
I would like to nominate a family in KZN, in a rural area called eNdlangubo. The Luthuli family who is a family of six, three adults and three kids, the youngest is a 2-month-old baby. The family all share one room, due to a storm which damaged their home before the lockdown. They need help with essentials and possibly fix the roof of their two-room house which has holes.Listen to their winning moment here:

Nominator Name: Paul Stone
Nominee Name: Sibusiso Ngubane
Ngubane has lived on my property for 10 years and works for me 2 days a week. He works for a number of other people in the area on the other days of the week. He cannot work during the lockdown and had to go back to his family who live in a farm in Zululand. His wife is unemployed and he has a severely disabled daughter that he is caring for during the lockdown. He has no form of income and we have tried to assist by paying him our portion for the month that he is not working but this is just 2 days of the week. He is not sure how he will be able to get back after the lockdown as he has no income and is having to look after his family. Any assistance will go a long way to assisting him and his family in these hard times.
