Big Favour: A mother and her kids are rescued from hard times
Updated | By East Coast Radio
It all started after Zithobile submitted her story to The Big Favour and we offered her a food voucher to assist.
As a single mother of two, Zithobile is in dire need of assistance. The ripple effects of their struggles extend beyond the confines of their home, potentially impacting the children's academic performance and future opportunities. It’s distressing to think that her eldest son might miss exams due to the inability to afford transportation.
We're more than just a radio station - we're a community of resilience and compassion. When we heard Zithobile's story, it struck a chord with us. Her family's struggles touched our hearts, and we knew we had to do something to help.
Company: Pro Talent
It all started after Zithobile submitted her story to The Big Favour and we offered her a food voucher to assist. However, her response shed light on the harsh reality of their situation - they couldn't even afford the transportation to visit us. This meant her children were missing school, trapped by the financial constraints that surrounded them.
One of our team members stopped by their home and we saw the signs of hardship firsthand - overgrown grass, broken windows, and an overall sense of struggle.
When her son mentioned they hadn't had rice in three months, it was a stark reminder of the depth of their need. Zithobile shared the challenges her son faced in his studies, trying to complete assignments on a limited cellphone. As a single mother, she was doing everything she could, but it wasn't enough.
Recognising the urgency of their situation, East Coast Radio and Cindy Norcott from Pro Talent stepped in with sustainable support:
1. Employment Assistance: Cindy Norcott, CEO and Founder of Pro Talent, will work directly with Zithobile to secure temporary employment with an opportunity of job placement. Assistance with a marketing brochure, a CV, and LinkedIn profile as well. This will provide a stable income for the family, easing their financial burden.
2. Financial Aid for Education: East Coast Radio will cover the outstanding education fees for Zithobile's son so that he can continue his education without the weight of debt. Additionally, ECR is providing R3,000 to cover essential expenses like transportation, groceries, and other necessities.
3. Laptop Sponsorship: Education is key to breaking the cycle of poverty. That's why East Coast Radio and Pro Talent are providing two laptops for the family.
4. Additional Immediate Support: Cindy Norcott has called on her friends and colleagues to help this family. SPAR is jumping on board to fetch the money and give her groceries to the value of R2,000, plus one of Cindy's friends, Tash Da Silva from Impala Ridge, will provide fresh fruit and veggies for the family.
