Updated | By Jane Linley-Thomas
Just when we thought it was over, another Ford Kuga has caught alight and thankfully the driver lived to tell the tale.
Jane Linley-Thomas spoke to Durban resident Sissy Mkhwanazi whose Ford Kuga caught alight on the N3:
A week ago, Durban resident Sissy Mkhwanazi found herself in a dangerous situation as her Ford Kuga caught alight on the N3 Southbound en-route to Estcourt.

In 2017, we saw a spate of Kuga fires, resulting in a recall of the make but it seems like the crisis is not yet over.
According to News24, after thinking that she had blown a tyre, Sissy noticed black smoke coming out of the car and shortly thereafter the fire began. She managed to retrieve her handbag before the car was fully alight but lost important documents pertaining to the recall of her Kuga in the fire.

Wheels24 has reported that Ford has responded following Sissy's incident. Here's what they had to say:
"Ford South Africa is aware of the incident involving the Ford Kuga of Sissy Mkhwanazi. We are saddened to hear about Ms Mkhwanazi’s ordeal. Ford is investigating the cause of the fire as a matter of urgency and in the interim, have provided Ms Mkhwanazi with a courtesy vehicle. We treat any such incident with the highest priority and will continue to liaise with her on the matter."
Having something go wrong while driving must be so scary. Once I put my foot on the accelerator instead of the brake and the feeling it gave me was one of instant fear and loss of control.
I can't imagine how panicked this lady must have been. On the road, vulnerable and not quite sure what the problem was but being fully aware that something was just not right.

Over and above the experience of seeing your car going up in smoke, it must be such an ordeal coming to terms with the loss of your mode of transport and the financial implications as well.
I'm glad that she wasn't hurt and in the bigger picture, that's all that matters.
