Stellenbosch University responds to racism video
Updated | By Portia Cele
Student group, Open Stellenbosch has released a video of 32 black students and a lecturer sharing their stories of racial prejudice at the university, and in the Boland town.
The documentary, titled Luister has been viewed now more than 80 000 YouTube.
Stellenbosch University's acting Vice Rector, Professor Nico Koopman says they've noted the video.
"It's indeed very serious. We're sad that our students have these dehumanising experiences of discrimination in terms of ethnicity and race. We are sad that even one South African or one human being experiences this type of evil discrimination," he said.
Koopman adds the university is doing everything in its power to address these challenges.
"I can mention that we will make sure that transformation even in the name of the Vice Rector is a central responsibility of the Vice Rector. Secondly, we will establish which will have staff and personnel," he said.
Open Stellenbosch has indicated it may be launching a campaign soon to discourage students from going to the university.
