South Africa has officially entered the third wave of Covid-19 infections amid a surge in cases.

Kubayi-Ngubane briefed the media Friday morning on government's efforts to tackle the pandemic.

She says despite the situation the country finds itself in, some people continue to ignore Covid prevention rules.

She says it is this kind of behaviour that has led to spikes in cases in provinces like Gauteng.

She says people are still gathering in their numbers for various reasons.

"When you go to a protest march for example, [there's] chanting, literally you see some people running without a mask.

"Some people almost destroying properties, burning tyres in the process you are sharing these things and you are holding these things in your hands from one hand to the other and that is putting a risk to other people."

On a positive note, she's confirmed that two million people have been vaccinated against coronavirus thus far.
